Celebrating our 40th season in Howard County, Backstage Dance Studio offers quality recreational and competitive dance classes in Columbia, MD for dancers ages 2 through adult. Our diverse training includes ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, pointe, acro, technique, conditioning and more in a positive and supportive environment.

Celebrating 40 Seasons in Howard County, MD
For nearly four decades, Backstage Dance Studio has been more than a place to learn steps. We believe dance education helps shape confident, disciplined, resilient, and compassionate young people.
Not every dancer will grow up to become a professional dancer, but every young dancer will grow up. The lessons they learn in the studio, including commitment, teamwork, perseverance, responsibility, confidence, and how to work toward a goal, are skills they will carry with them long after their final bow.
Sisters and co-owners Lindsey Sanders and Lauren Ruhling took ownership of Backstage Dance Studio in 2024 with a commitment to honoring the studio's history while continuing to create new opportunities for the next generation of BSDS dancers.
Whether a student walks through our doors for their very first dance class or trains at a competitive level, we want them to leave BSDS not only as a stronger dancer, but also as a stronger, more confident person who is prepared for whatever comes next.
